LANDFILL CHARACTERISATION

SURFACE CAP AND HDPE INTEGRITY
Evaluation on “cap” integrity and on HDPE membrane in landfills can be obtained through classic techniques of electric tomography and electromagnetic surveys, able to measure electric conductivity without digging pickets. Variations in electric conductivity allow the determination of possible concentrations of leachate and/or damages in the impermeable cover and in the HDPE geomembrane.
MAPPING DRY/WET WASTE
Resistivity measurements allow the distinction of anhydrous waste (high resistivity) from hydrous waste (low resistivity) and saturated in conductive leachate.
SOURCE AND PLUME MAPPING
Resistivity tomography can be used to monitor the contamination level of the subsurface and to locate possible pollution sources and plumes in depth. The data acquired can be processed through 3D models to reconstruct the progress and the pathway of the potential polluting substance.
